New Site Up and Running

I finally took the time to get WordPress up and running. I plan to post here once a week, or maybe every other week or so.

I also plan to use it to announce work and life events that folks might be interested in. For example, we just set a date for the Feed Your Brain presentation I’ll be giving at work, titled ‘The Semantic Web: Real World Examples with MicroFormats’. We’re shooting for 9/27/07 for now.

Here’s the intro. for the presentation:

According to Tim Berners-Lee, the Semantic Web is the future of the World Wide Web - and he’d be the guy to ask; he invented it in 1989 and is currently the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (www.w3.org). Today, there is a slew of activity toward building Berner-Lee’s vision, including development of new technologies as well as new ways to use old ones.

Join in for a clear description of the Semantic Web and patterns for using existing technology to build semantic applications. We’ll start with the basics, looking at semantic markup. We’ll also look at the MicroFormats project (microformats.org) and how this community has had tremendous success in realizing the semantic web.

I’m excited about giving the presentation, so I hope we have a good turn-out.
